About Mary Visker

ABOUT
I am Mary Visker. I earned a BS degree in education from Brigham Young University and spent my college summers counseling and directing resident girls’ camps. I received an MS degree from the University of Arizona in physical education and athletic training. I have taught in both high school and college. I was an avid backpacker and celebrated my 50th birthday with a solo 50-mile backpacking trip into the High Uintas Wilderness. Beverly Thomas and I started the Utah Valley Children’s Choir which toured and performed across the United States and in England/Scotland.
At the age of sixty, I received my third degree in nursing which allowed me to fulfill a lifelong dream of becoming a missionary nurse. I served my first mission as a nurse in the country of Kiribati in the Central Pacific on the equator. My second nursing mission took me to Puerto Rico, and my third found me in the Philippines on the island of Cebu.
When I returned from the Philippines, I was deeply touched by all the miracles I had seen on my missions and was impressed that I should write about them. I wanted people to know that there truly is a God who freely dispenses miracles if individuals have faith in Him and follow his teachings. With the encouragement of a BYU professor friend, Miracles, Personal Revelations, A Thankful Heart rolled off the press two years later.
I found that people who read my book loved it, but many others would not even consider reading a non-fiction book. I felt so strongly that many who are struggling in this world of growing chaos could find peace by following the teachings of our Savior. I decided to write a series of fiction books that place individuals in problems of today and solve them by doing it the Lord’s way. The problems are real, only the characters are fictitious. Shadows on the Canyon Wall, Vol. 1, and Shadows Under the Mountain Peak, Vol 2 are in print. Shadows in the Campus Halls, Vol 3 in the publisher’s hands.
I have set up this website to be able to blog about the ideas in my books and to receive thoughts from my audience for living the “Peaceable Life” amid the turmoil.
By far, my greatest accomplishment and joy is that of being a mother of two sons, grandmother to 5 grandchildren, and great-grandmother to six greats and counting.
